Cal-co Quilter’s Guild, 2012
Quilter of the Year, Nancy Everling, says she has never met a quilter she
didn’t like. “Quilters are so friendly and always willing to share and help
another quilter.” She attributes her sewing skills and involvement in quilting
with the many friendships she has acquired in the guild since her retirement as
an RN in 2001. Nancy first learned of the Cal-co Quilter’s Guild at the guild’s
quilt show in Marshall when a friend (Quilter of the Year 2011, Rita Frost)
from many years ago invited her to a meeting. At that first meeting Nancy volunteered to be in charge of Hospitality. And she
has been volunteering and working ever since. She has served on the board as
Member-at-large as well as Hospitality and served on the Nominating Committee.
For the last 7 years she has been chairperson of Intake of Quilts at the annual
quilt show and volunteers in the Cal-co Café.
In quilting, Nancy ’s love right now is machine appliqué using fusible
webbing and blanket stitching. Her favorite part of any project is fabric
selection which can be more time consuming than doing the project. Nancy also enjoys doing redwork and other embroidery
stitching as well as piecing quilts.
Christmas is Nancy ’s favorite time of year and much of her display at
the quilt show will be Christmas quilts. One of her very first quilts will also
be at the show. It was a class in making Moon Glow by designer, Jinny Beyer, in
which she won her first ribbon. Nancy ’s display of her work promises to be one not to
miss.
One of Nancy's first quilts, Moon Glow. Pattern by Jinny Beyer. Nancy does not recommend making this one for new quilters...what a struggle to make this but now so proud.
